A state where only one individual from one privileged family, is recognised as sovereign.  As such he, or she, has been supposedly granted the Devine right, by God Himself, to enslave all those within his or her realm.

In reality most monarchies were dictatorships using alliances and brute force to increase their wealth and territory all the while subjecting the majority peasants to a life of feudal slavery and abject poverty.  Once in power they do what all winners do...they rewrite history.  The non thinking, illiterate peasants were convinced that their royal masters were handpicked by God and the peasants’ survival depended on the goodwill and generosity of the King and his nobles.

They are the remnants of a bygone age.   Today their privileged positions are still protected by legislations, but more so by a relentless publicity machine desperate to maintain their image as necessary traditional icons always eager to “work” for the people by attending endless charity functions.

The irony is, that as a sovereign, the king or queen does have a devine right to rule over their realm...but so do you.
